Dying Man’s Daily Journal – Seeking tips

Yesterday was a good day for a lot of reasons but for 3 in particular.

Vi came home. she has spent the past week up in Thompson baby sitting grandchildren.

The refrigerator is out of the living room and back into the kitchen. Which means the kitchen reno is virtually complete. Just a few trim board and things like that need to be finished. And “I DID IT ALL MYSELF”. I suppose to be fair I should acknowledge that Earth Angel Henri Chevillard and others may have helped a bit. Maybe instead of saying a bit, I should say helped “some” but I DID THE REST OF IT. OK, OK you got me, Earth Angel Henri did about 90% of the work but I DID THE REST.Β  Oh wait, Eric and Lynda did help when they could, there was also brother-in-law Neal……. Hmm, maybe I should be saying every job needs a good supervisor and I DID THAT or at least between naps I DID THAT. I thank God for the Earth Angels in my life. I have to do a post on that. I think of Henri. He donated literally hundreds of hours. I say donated I mean that, when I tried to pay him at least a little something he politely declined. Knowing there are people such as this in this world of ours just makes me feel good inside.

Yesterday I got a phone call that has me excited. This weekend my Aunt Isabel is coming for a visit. I really enjoy her visits and spending time with her. I know I have written about past visits.

Now this is going to be more than just a nice visit. During the visit “a world championship title” will be place on the line. In the past Aunt Isabel and I have battled long and hard for this title. This weekend the title will again be on the line.

We both enjoy playing the card game crib. In a visit we will play numerous games. Two or three years ago we sat down to play and I declared it to be for the championship of the world. One game and the winner takes the title. Very quickly I realized for something as Important as the “Championship of the World” instead of one game it should be 2 out of 3, then 3 out of 5, no best of seven. She took the title home with her to Swan River.

We played again about a year later. Aunt Isabel put the title on the line. Still stinging from the defeat of the year before, I sought ways to possibly distract her or make her feel the pressure. Would she crack under the additional pressure if I made it a high “stakes money” game. I outlined the rules to her. It was to be best of seven plus to even enter the tournament we each had to ante up 25 cents. Well she didn’t crack under this additional pressure and again the title returned with her to Swan River.

We have a lot of fun playing. I am looking forward to the visit. Any tips or suggestions on how I can gain the edge , I mean this is for the “Championship of the World”.

    Hello Mr Bill,

My anme is Nicole. I am A college student who is rewriting a chapter in my Eng Class. The chapter is titled Death and Dying. I am really at a stand still with renamin this. It seem like many people go through the dying process before their death. I am also focusing on the Kubler-Ross stages of dying which is Depression, Anger, bargainning,Denial, and Acceptance. I would love to know if you experienced any of these signs. At this point I do see that you are definitely in the Acceptance phase. I would love to hear and possiblely include you in my new chapter.
If you don’t want me to include you I fully understand and respect you decision.

Hi Nicole, I would be honored to be included in anything you may write. You will notice I deleted your email address to protect your privacy but have copied it and an email has been sent to you.

Hi Doraz you are right, I am a winner in this situation no matter what. Just between you and me, I really don’t care if I win or loose the games (any games) I just enjoy talking the smack before hand.

hi Mel, you have read of previous tournaments. The hard fought battles, the rising tension with each card played. lol. It is a lot of fun.
You are so right about the Earth Angels, I am a blessed man and a very very lucky man.
I am “remembering” our rest deal.

Yay for the kitchen reno being done! That is fabulous news. And best wishes to you as you battle for that World Championship Title! Maybe the third time will be the charm, but even if you lose, at least you’ll get a visit with your Aunt Isabel!

In case anyone who is interested hasn’t already heard, I wanted to mention that Noah Biorkman, the little boy who had requested the Christmas cards, passed away this morning. His family announced it on their blog. They also mentioned that he received over one million Christmas cards! It’s such a sad story, and yet there is a glimmer of happiness that so many people responded to his last wish.

Hi Cat, the up coming visit is what I am most looking forward to.
I thank you for the update on Noah. This is such a tragic yet inspirational story. Such a brave young man, he brought out the best of the world in the out pouring of love as he received over a million cards. My heart bleeds for the family. Prayers please for them all.
After reading your comment I googled his name to get any more information. I found an article on the CNN web site. As is the case with online news articles there is a spot where comments can be left by the readers. The out pouring of love and support was awesome. I could only read a few before I just had to stop. I came to some comments left by who I can only describe as a #@*& jerk. Reading such, just seemed to suck the life right out of me, I had to sign off and shut down for the night. Why is all I can ask????

Sounds like you both win with this game – time spent together with family, no losers there. Happy thanksgiving!

Hi.. ok cool ! your aunt is coming ! All the best for the card game and put in all your mind and heart in it and you’ll win …Even if you loose nothing to regret about as the company of your aunt is probably more special and important to you .:)

Ugh, Bill, I’m so sorry you came across some nasty comments on that article. I think a lot of people say the most horrible things they can think of online just to get a reaction from others. They think it’s funny. Of course, they’d never say such things face to face. I have learned to just ignore people who do that. I’m not going to give them the satisfaction of letting them upset me.
