Dying Man’s Daily Journal – Help with flowers

Haven’t been able to get to the computer to much in the past few days. Combination of not feeling well and appointments. Saw my family doctor yesterday, my blood sugar levels are higher than he likes. Plus, I am being referred to another different specialist. Getting checked out for an entirely different issue. Appointments and tests are being set up. Will likely talk more about that when I really know more.

I am so far behind in replying to comments, I will never get caught up. Will do a post just thanking everyone.

I have often written on how, Vi is such a avid gardener. She loves her flowers but is facing a challenge. With each change of location or move, many of the plants get moved also. Over time some of the names have been forgotten. We currently have one such unidentified plant. All gardening friends have been asked and she has spent time going through her various books but just can’t identify this one. Can anyone tell us what this is? Photographer maybe didn’t do the best job but I won’t identify him so as not to embarrass myself, haha

I’m a delurking gardener. I’m pretty sure Vi’s flower is a heliopsis (with double flowers). A lot of those gold-flowered plants have latin names beginning with “heli” (like the sunflower, helianthus). It’s Greek for sun.

  2. Hi Bill,
I have these in my garden and they are false sunflowers. Try looking here for a picture

    Hope you are feeling better.

    Hi Bill!
I know what it’s like to try to control blood sugars. I’ve been a diabetic for about 30 years and every day is a struggle to get and keep them under control. Sometimes the task seems impossible as the body does whatever it wants to–or so it seems. Good luck with all that medical stuff.

I’d love to help you out with the flower thing but I’m a dud when it comes to gardening. If you saw what I’m presently calling the flower bed, you’d know I’m hopeless in that area. I’m thinking of replacing it all with stone and then filling flower pots with flowers for color. It’s a nice dream…will I ever get to it???!!!

    Have a great day, Wiseman.

I agree with Jan. We have them in our flower bed and the tag says heliopsis!

    that…is a pretty yellow flower.

Have a great week and I hope you are feeling better now…

  8. Hege says:

Hi Bill and Vi! These flowers come in many variations. Do a search for “Rudbeckia laciniata” and you will see. They are often called “Goldball” when they are double like yours. In Norway the highest variation of these are called “Kiss me over the fence” because they need a fence to lean on to, but never the less they lean over – in the right height for those passing by! 🙂 Love Hege

They look very similar in color and texture to the beautiful flower garden I have in my front yard. Some people refer to them as dandelions and weeds……I refer to them as pretty little yellow flowers. Brother take care of yourself!

Hi Bill…sorry to hear you a bit low again! Hope you can get your blood sugars sorted out sufficiently well within a range…have been trying to do this for 27years now and am totally fed up with it!! BTW, what do you measure yours in? Hi, Bill.

As I was running down my blogroll, I noticed that I have not checked in with you in a couple.

I am sorry to learn that you are struggling with your bloog sugar levels, but it is so important to try and keep them at a healthy level. My mom is a Type 2 diabetic, she is really learning now after 20 years to really control her glucose. It certainly isn’t easy.

Warm positive thoughts and prayers being sent your way.:)

Re: the flower. Can’t help you out there.:(

  18. Irene says:

    Hey, Bill!
Is all OK with you? I was just checking in and noticed that you haven’t been posting for the last few days…not that you need to…regrouping time and energies is just as important. Hope your weekend is progressing as it should.

Take care. Rest up well, Wiseman.
    Irene
