Dying Man’s Daily Journal – Family Preparing

I am up and feeling much better today. With all the happenings and goings on of the past week I hadn’t even realized how tired I really was. I suppose it caught up with me yesterday, once Vi and the family had all gone. I had tried to nap soon after they left but couldn’t sleep because of a racing mind. Being alone I had no one to vent to, so I turned here to the blog and vented. I really did help as I went back and had a really good nap. I am not sure can you still call it a nap when you sleep 11 hours. I was up for 3 or 4 hours and then back to bed for the night, got another 9 hours. Now here I am and feeling much better.

I am happy to say Vi and family all arrived in Thompson safely. I spoke to her last night and all were very tired also, I am sure it was to bed early for them all.

The next few days are going to be tough for them all. The “process” (I can’t think of a better term right now) begins today. Vi and family are of Native Canadian ancestry. The actual funeral will be held in the Catholic Church but there will still be an element of the Native culture thrown in.

I have no doubt Mr. C. is happily residing in Heaven and that his body is merely the home he inhabited while on this earth. His body (earthly home) has been at the funeral home for several day and there they have done what ever exactly it is they do to prepare the body. But now is the family time.

By custom, a couple of members of the family will go to the funeral home to wash and dress the body. Then there will be a private time for family only to view the body, say prayers and private good byes. Tomorrow there will be a viewing of the body open to the public where friends can do the same. With the actual funeral being on Monday. My prayers are constantly with Vi and family.

Bill, my thoughts and prayers are with you and especial Vi’s family at this very sad time. I will be thinking of them over the next couple of days.
I am glad you had a good “nap”. I had the house to myself last night as the kids are on sleepovers and my husband away on a fishing trip. I know what it is like, I am walking around the house, going, ok…… ‘What now’. There are times I just wish for peace and quite and then when I get it, I don’t know what to do with myself. We are never a satisfied species are we.
    Loving prayers to you all.

    I’m glad rest found you.

I hope Vi and the family find some as well, now that they’ve arrived safely.

You all are in my thoughts.

It is a beautiful custom, that of family members washing and dressing the body of the deceased. It’s a time-honored custom in many areas of Italy, as well, especially if a person dies at home, as is often the case.

My prayers are with Vi and her family, as well as with you. I’m glad you are resting well and feeling better!

    HI BILL,
MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH VI AND HER FAMILY. I AM ALSO PRAYING FOR YOU-IT IS TOUGH TO BE AWAY FROM EVERYTHING. AS LONG AS YOU ARE THERE IN SPIRIT THEN ALL IS WELL. GOD BLESS

Hi Jo, Kind thoughts and prayers appreciated. I am envious of your husband, I love fishing. Vi is not away all that often but usually I enjoy a day or two alone. (a day or two are the key words there). I suppose it is the circumstances this time that makes if different.

Hi Mel, it sounds like they are getting some rest but I am sure not as much as they really need. With the emotions of the time and all I am expecting Vi will come home exhausted.

Hi Pia, yes I am feeling much better. In the past 2 days I certainly have had enough sleep. It is so interesting to learn that custom carries all the way to Italy, thank you for sharing that

Hazel, I thank you so much for dropping by and leaving the comment. Prayers are always appreciated to much
